Can Scooters & Electric Wheelchairs be Transported by Ambulance & Medical Car?

Posted by On Time Ambulance on 3/1/17 1:01 PM

Whenever we book a wheelchair transport trip involving an electronic wheelchair, we first determine the specific make and model of the chair.

Our lifts can accommodate chairs up to 32 inches total in width (including the outside of the tires). This is a standard size and does not vary. Sometimes electric wheelchairs are too wide to fit on a standard sized lift.

The Politics of Upgrading NJ's 911 System

Posted by On Time Ambulance on 12/13/16 2:39 PM

It’s never been more important to upgrade and optimize our 911 system for cell phones. Seventy percent of emergency calls now come in that way. We also need to be able to text, send pictures, and give dispatchers the ability to geo-locate cell phones like is available in many other states.

You can currently text 911 in some counties in NJ. But the system, developed in the 1980s, cannot track where exactly the calls or texts come from. It can only provide a range. The whole grid needs to be revamped for it to work more efficiently.

Pricing Wheelchair Transportation: How Low is Too Low?

Posted by John Bush on 12/7/16 9:38 AM

“What’s the going rate for wheelchair transportation in New Jersey?”

The answer isn't as straightforward as you might think. Rates vary from company to company, but unfortunately, sometimes what really matters is, who’s asking? If you’re someone who handles regular referrals to ambulance companies, especially among Medicare patients, you’ve probably found that medical transportation company reps trip over themselves to offer you and your patients impossibly great deals. But if something looks too good to be true --- it probably is.

Prior Authorization for Ambulance Transport: What You Need To Know

Posted by On Time Ambulance on 8/16/16 11:15 AM

It's been a year and a half since Prior Authorization went into effect here in New Jersey. There have been some unintended consequences, but for the most part it seems that the program has been successful. As one of the state's largest ambulance and medical transportation companies, we have gained plenty of experience in complying with these new regulations.

To assist our various partners, we've put together a list of explanations and key terms that health care workers can use to increase chances of approval. This list is by no means exhaustive, but we think it's a good start. If you have questions that are more in-depth or specific to your organization, we'd be happy to schedule a compliance consultation visit.

My First Day at On Time: June 10th, 1991

Posted by Susan Delsandro on 7/14/16 11:00 AM

My first day of work at On Time began with John asking me to do him a favor by completing a trip into NYC. No other drivers were available that day.

The trip was for a 22-year-old man who had injured himself falling off of a roof. He needed to go into the city to see a hand surgeon. I was running late, and wasn’t able to stop at the bank to make a deposit before leaving to get the car.

5 Brazen, Shameless, and Downright Disturbing Instances of Medicare Fraud

Posted by On Time Ambulance on 7/6/16 11:46 AM

Since their inception in March 2007, The Medicare Fraud Strike Force, a joint initiative between the DOJ and HHS, has charged defendants who together falsely billed more than $7 billion to federal healthcare programs. Through payment data analysis, investigations, and coordination with CMS, they are working diligently to stop fraud, abuse, and other healthcare crimes. Posted by On Time Ambulance on 6/23/16 1:50 PM

We’ve written extensively on Medicare fraud in the transportation industry here on our blog, but this one was surprising even for us.

Back in May, the New York City Fire Department joined a long list of entities (hospitals, ambulance companies and other organizations) that have settled or been prosecuted for violating the False Claims Act and defrauding the federal health care system.
